Baby-1-1

Welcome to Durham Babylab!

Here you can find lots of information about who we are, what research we do, and how you can get involved.

About Us

We are a research group at Durham University Psychology department, specialising in infant development. We are made up of a friendly team of researchers who all find infant development fascinating, and have our own different interests in specific areas of infancy like language learning, sleep, and movement.

To help us better understand how infants’ brains and behaviours develop in their first years of life, we actively conduct research across the North East of England at science events and schools, as well as in our state-of-the-art labs at Durham University.

Our lab group

Our lab is made up of lots of researchers who all find infant development fascinating, so who love working in research to discover more about it! In our lab, we are proud to have researchers from many different backgrounds and stages in their career – including professors, PhD students, research assistants, undergraduates, and masters students; coming from across the UK as well as Australia, Germany, and Italy. At the head of our lab is Dr. Samuel Forbes, an expert in infant development and neuroimaging. To find out more about our lab members, click here!

Get involved!

We are always running new studies for infants to come and have a go at – and we would love for you to be involved! Taking part in a study can be a fun trip out for you and your infant to do something new and different, and also means you will both be contributing to exciting new scientific findings!

To find out more about what studies we currently have available to take part in, you can email us here (babylab@durham.ac.uk).

You can also sign up to our mailing list here to be contacted whenever a new study is released that your infant is eligible for!
